You can think of each field in a GraphQL query as a function or method of the previous type which returns the next type. Each field on each type is backed by a function called the resolver which is provided by the GraphQL server developer. When a field is executed, the corresponding resolver is called to produce the next value
The range selection is based on the default time field in your data. If you are using the sample data, this value was set when you added the data. If you are using your own data, and it does not have a time field, the range selection is not available
