Creates a Strong, Durable, Long-Lasting Bond Once applied, our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Plastic & Rubber Instant Adhesive PR Gel typically reaches handling strength in under 25 seconds, with a full cure achieved in 24 hours. This keeps jobs moving quickly and may help improve workplace productivity. These adhesives may be bonded to like substrates or in combination with metal or composite substrates.Understanding Instant Adhesives Instant adhesives are cyanoacrylate based formulas that are strong, fast-acting glues used in industrial and household applications
Natural polymers, such as cellulose and latex, were first chemically modified in the 19th century to form celluloid and vulcanized rubber. Synthetic rubber was needed for tires, and nylon was needed as a replacement for silk for parachutes. Today synthetic polymers in the form of plastics are in wide use, and the plastics industry is one of the fastest growing in the United States and around the world
Once the part is ready for rubber overmolding, the metal parts are inserted into the mold cavity.  If molding a specific area, the metal part is held in place by special magnets.  If the part is to be completely encapsulated with rubber, the part is held in place with chaplet pins. The mold is then closed and the rubber molding process begins.  As the elevated molding temperature cures the rubber, it also activates the adhesive forming a mechanical bonding of rubber to metal or bonding rubber to plastic
